Aluminum metal products often have oil stains, burrs, and surface defects after production. Vibratory and Mechanical Grinding Technology effectively polishes aluminum surfaces and improves product quality.

1. Aluminum products that require polishing

Aluminum products that need polishing are typically raw cast parts with sharp burrs, mold lines, scratches, rough bumps, and surface pits, or older products that have become tarnished due to oxidation, losing their original shine.

2. Aluminum polishing methods

Mechanical polishing methods for aluminum can be divided into mechanical polishing and vibratory polishing. Both of these polishing methods are semi-automatic and require manual operation.

Mechanical Polishing: This method uses polishing machines in combination with buffing wheels, non-woven wheel, abrasive wheels, or sisal wheels along with polishing compound or wax, depending on the desired polishing purpose

Vibratory Polishing: This method utilizes specialized vibratory polishing machines such as 3D vibratory machines or barrel tumblers. The operator loads the machine with polishing media (ceramic or steel), aluminum-specific polishing compound, clean water, and the aluminum workpieces, then starts the machine. Once the desired surface finish is achieved, the machine is turned off, clean water is used to rinse the parts, and the polished aluminum items are removed.

Vibratory polishing machines can both deburr sharp edges of raw aluminum products (coarse polishing) and polish or color-finish aluminum surfaces as desired (fine polishing), depending on the type of polishing media used.

3. Process of Vibratory and Mechanical Grinding technology for aluminum finishing

We use the following machines and materials: double roller grinding machine, 3D vibratory polishing machine, deburring compound, polishing compound, stainless steel media, coarse cone-shaped plastic media, abrasive belt.

Step 1: Coarse grinding

– Use the double roller grinding machine, check the machine, mount the abrasive belt and start the machine.

– Place the product surface with many burrs close to the rotating abrasive belt to create friction and begin grinding. When the burrs are removed, stop, take the product away from the abrasive belt and turn off the machine.

Step 2: Surface leveling

– Use the 3D vibratory polishing machine, coarse cone-shaped plastic media, and deburring compound.

– Put the coarse plastic media, deburring compound, and aluminum products into the machine’s bowl. Then start the machine. Once the burrs on the products are removed, drain with clean water and take the products out.

Step 3: Polishing

– Use the 3D vibratory polishing machine, stainless steel media, and polishing compound.

– Put the stainless steel media, polishing compound, and aluminum products into the machine’s bowl. Then start the machine. During the polishing process, check whether the aluminum products have achieved the required shine. Once the desired finish is reached, rinse thoroughly with clean water and take the products out.

Note: During the vibratory polishing process, for machines equipped with a separation screen, install the screen to separate the finished products. This helps save significantly on production costs and labor.
