How many types of industrial sand are there?

Aluminum oxide, also known as Al2O3 or Alumina, is an effective thermal and electrical insulator. In its crystal structure, aluminum oxide is also known as corundum (CAS number 1302-74-5), which has a hardness of up to 9 on the Mohs scale and a melting point of up to 2050°C. These properties make it an ideal material for use in abrasive industries and an indispensable component in cutting tools.

Aluminum oxide grit is widely applied in metal surface cleaning processes, including rust removal, stain elimination, and weld cleaning before painting or plating. This makes it an ideal blasting abrasive for many applications such as sandpaper production, metal surface preparation, rust removal, and paint cleaning.

White aluminum oxide grit contains up to 99% Al2O3 in its composition. Compared to brown sand, white sand produces a brighter surface after blasting. It plays an important role in the international cleaning industry.

Black sand is extracted from bauxite ore through melting in an electric arc furnace, mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and hercynite. Its notable features include medium hardness, good self-sharpening ability, low grinding temperature, and minimal surface burning
