Aluminum polishing (aluminum surface treatment) includes deburring, smoothing, and polishing the aluminum surface. Aluminum polishing is normally conducted via 3-dimensional vibratory, rotary barrel, and wheel grinding machines with specific surface active preparations and polishing compounds in order to achieve large quantities and great quality within minimum processing time.
Aluminum polishing process aims to remove defects on the aluminum surface and increase the brightness to the required level. Common aluminum workpieces that need polishing are rough casting workpieces (with burr, mold marks, scratches, gas porosities, blowholes) or oxidized workpieces whose surface colors have gotten dull. After the metal surface treatment & polishing process, the aluminum surface will meet high demand for outer appearance, which enhances product value.
Aluminum polishing enhances the value of aluminum products
Not only is manual aluminum polishing method time-consuming and costly, but it also does not satisfy increasingly sophisticated requirements for surface result. Nowadays, most manufacturers choose to conduct aluminum polishing via specialized machine with surface active preparations instead of manual polishing. By this way, surface quality and polishing quality are greatly enhanced, while working time and costs are noticeably reduced.
Aluminum workpiece before and after polishing
Mechanical polishing methods for aluminum can be divided into mechanical polishing and vibratory polishing. Both methods are semi-automatic, requiring an operator to control the machine.
Mechanical polishing: This method uses mechanical grinders or polishers combined with cloth wheels, felt wheels, abrasive papers, or sisal wheels, along with polishing compound or wax, depending on the desired surface finish.
Polishing via wheel grinding machine and polishing wheels
Vibratory Polishing: This method uses specialized vibratory polishing machines, such as three-dimensional vibrators or centrifugal barrel machines. The operator loads polishing media (stones or steel balls), specialized aluminum polishing compound, clean water, and the aluminum parts into the machine, then starts the operation. When the desired surface finish is achieved, the machine is stopped, clean water is used for rinsing, and the polished parts are removed.
Vibratory polishing machines can both deburr sharp edges of raw aluminum products (coarse polishing) and create a smooth, glossy finish or desired surface color (fine polishing) by using different types of polishing media
3-dimensional vibratory machine
Aluminum polishing process can be broken down into 3 steps: rough, medium and fine polishing. The optimal polishing process depends on the condition of the unpolished workpiece and polishing requirements. A rough aluminum casting workpiece coming straight out of the mold normally has burrs that need to be removed via vibratory machines. Depending on the polishing requirement, the next step can either be medium or fine polishing. Normally, fine polishing via grinding machines with buff wheels, felt wheels and polishing compounds is the last step, which helps to enhance the surface brightness.
Specialized aluminum polishing compound for vibratory polishing
LEKAR has researched and provided specialized surface active preparations for aluminum vibratory and rotary polishing in order to ensure time effectiveness, desired brightness and color. Porcelain and stainless steel balls used during fine polishing by vibratory and rotary barrel machines bring out pure and deep-shaded brightness as per request.
Specialized surface preparation for different materials
With 10-year expertise in polishing, LEKAR Group is widely acknowledged for reliable provision of high-quality polishing machines, media, materials, and technical consulting services for metals and nonmetals at competitive prices. Conducting surface treatment for aluminum via vibratory and rotary machines enhances the quality and quantity of the treated products, which greatly helps to reduce time and costs for manufacturers.
Beside provision of polishing machinery and media, LEKAR Group also deploys metal surface processing services as per request in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for customers who do not wish to conduct in-house polishing.
